Super Star Krishna: Veteran actor, Superstar Krishna (79) passed away. Krishna suffered a cardiac arrest at midnight on Sunday and was rushed to the Continental Hospital in Gachibowli by his family members. He breathed his last on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment. With Krishna’s death, his family members and fans and the Telugu cine world are in mourning. Krishna was born on May 31, 1942 in Burripalem village in Tenali mandal of Guntur district to Veeraraghavayya Chaudhary and Nagaratna. He is the eldest of five children.

Krishna’s real name is Ghattamaneni Sivarama Krishnamurthy. He was very interested in movies since childhood. But his parents wanted Krishna to become an engineer. But, as he did not get a seat, he joined the degree. While studying there, famous actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao was honored in Eluru. After attending the program, Krishna’s love for movies increased and he came towards this field. Krishna married Indira in 1965. They have five children. Ramesh Babu, Mahesh Babu, Padmavati, Priyadarshini, Manjula. After that, Krishna got married for the second time to film actress and director Vijayanirmal.

Even after graduation, Krishna tried to get an engineering seat but did not get it, so he chose films as his future. Actors Jaggaiah, Gummadi and producer Chakrapani were from Tenali, so Krishna went to Madras and met them. They advised him that he was young and that there would be good opportunities in films if he stopped for a while and came to Madras. Krishna, who returned, joined the Prajanatya Mandal and acted in several plays with the cooperation of Garikapati Raja Rao and increased his knowledge of acting. Krishna’s film journey started in 1964 with the film ‘Tene Manasulu’ directed by the famous director and producer Adurthi Subbarao. Krishna’s performance in this film was not good and there was pressure on the director to remove him. However, Adurthi Subbarao did not change his decision. His film released in 1965 was a huge success.

Gudhachari with 116 success.. Chance in 20 movies
Krishna got an opportunity in ‘Gudhachari 116’ while acting in the second film ‘Kanne Manasello’. This movie became a huge success and turned his career around. That’s it.. Telugu audience affectionately called him as Andhra James Bond. With this success, Krishna was chosen as the hero of 20 films. His image grew immensely with Gudhchari 116. After that, he did 6 more James Bond films in the next two decades. All of them brought him success. Bapu’s full outdoor film ‘Sakshi’ boosted Krishna’s image. It is a film where he played the role of a village innocent who believes in humanity. This is also the first film with Vijayanirmal.

18 movies in a year..
Krishna’s performance in 70-71 was unforgettable for Telugu audience. Tens of his films were released in a year. In 1968, 10 films starring Krishna were released. After that 15 films were released in 1969, 16 films in 1970, 11 films in 1971, 18 films in 1972, 15 films in 1973, 13 films in 1974 and 17 films in 1980. At one stage Krishna used to work in three shifts a day.

Introducing new technology..
Krishna acted in more than 340 films in a film career spanning four decades. Krishna, who did many adventures in the prime of cinema, became known as a ‘daring and dashing’ hero. In 1970, he started a production company named Padmalaya and made successful films. He has directed 16 films as well. Many of Krishna’s films introduced new techniques and genres in Telugu. The first James Bond movie in Telugu (Gudhachari 116), the first cowboy movie (Mosagallku Mosagadu), the first Fullscope movie (Alluri Sitaramaraju), the first 70 mm movie (Simhasanam) are the movies that Krishna starred in.

Rajiv Gandhi entered politics with friendship..
Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was close to Krishna. Krishna joined the Congress party in 1984 with that admiration. In 1989, he contested from Eluru Lok Sabha constituency on behalf of Hastam Party and won. In the 1991 elections, he once again contested from Elur and lost. After that, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. With the defeat in Elur, Krishna stayed away from direct politics. But after joining the Congress party, he made several films criticizing Telugu Desam and NTR’s government. After 2010, he gradually took a break from films. 2016’s ‘Sri Sri’ was Krishna’s last film.

Krishna has received many awards for his outstanding service in the film industry. Filmfare South Lifetime Achievement Award (1997), NTR National Award (2003), Andhra University Honorary Doctorate (2008), Padma Bhushan Award (2009).
