According to a report in India Today, Mani Ratnam and Chiyan Vikram have received court notices by a lawyer named Selvam. In the petition filed by advocate Selvam in the court, it has been said that Aditya Karikalan did not apply tilak on his forehead, but Chiyan Vikram, who is playing the role of King Aditya in the film, is shown wearing a tilak in the film’s poster.

Advocate Selvam suspects that the Chola dynasty is being portrayed in a wrong way in the film. Selvam, in his petition, has demanded that a special screening of Ponniyin Selvan be held before its release, to ensure that the filmmakers do not tamper with the facts.
