First Indian Oscar winner:

Bhanu Athiya created history by becoming the first Indian Oscar winner. She won the award at the 55th Oscar ceremony as the best costume designer for the film Gandhi released in 1983. The movie is based on the life story of Mahatma Gandhi.

Satyajit Ray:

Satyajitre won the Oscar for his contribution to the Indian film industry. In 1992, Oscars announced an honorary award for Satyajitre in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of cinema. But then Satyajitre was in the hospital due to illness and could not attend the ceremony. With that, the Academy itself came to the hospital and presented Oscar.

AR Rahman:

Vocal wizard AR Rahman has bagged two Oscars simultaneously. Slumdog Millionaire also won two awards in the categories of Best Original Song and Best Original Score. AR Rahman has created a record as the first Indian to win two Academy Awards.

Rasul Pookutty:

Rusal Pookutty won the Oscar in the Best Sound Mixing category for Slumdog Millionaire at the 81st Academy Awards.

Gulzar:

Gulzar, who has served the Indian film industry as a director, producer and lyricist, won the award at the 81st Oscar ceremony. He won an Oscar in the Best Original Song category for the song Jayaho from the movie Slum Dog Millionaire.

Guneet Monga:

Delhi-based producer Guneeth Monga won an award at the 91st Oscars. Guneeth won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film for Period End of a Sentence.

All That Breaths (Best Documentary Feature Film), The Elephant Whisperers (Best Documentary Short Film) and Natu Natu (Best Original Song) have been nominated from India for the 95th Oscar Awards.
