PM Modi meets ‘Udanpari’, PT Usha gets a grand welcome in Parliament

India’s star runner PT Usha (PT Usha) took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on Wednesday. Rajya Sabha Speaker Venkaiah Naidu administered the oath to him. PM Narendra Modi also met PT Usha, who finished fourth in the 1984 Olympics after taking oath. The PM shared a picture of this meeting on his social media and also wrote that it was a pleasure to meet PT Usha in Parliament. This star player also got a great welcome in the Rajya Sabha. As soon as Naidu called out PT Usha’s name while starting the morning’s proceedings, the entire house erupted in applause. All the members welcomed this star by thumping the table. Former Olympian took oath in Hindi.

At the age of 16, he was writing to participate in the Olympics.

PT Usha popularly known as Udanpari is also known as Payyoli Express. Talking about PT Usha’s career, she took part in the Olympics at the age of just 16. Four years after the Moscow Olympics, she became the first Indian female athlete to reach the final of the 1984 Olympics. She had missed out on winning the medal by a very small margin in the title match.

In the 400 meters hurdles, she had missed out on winning the bronze in 1/100 second. No Indian has been able to forget that race of his till date. After this, he created history by winning 4 gold in the 1986 Seoul Asian Games. After retirement, he started Usha School of Athletics, where young players are given world class facilities for training.
