GT vs RR IPL 2022 Final Match Report: Gujarat Titans became IPL champion, broke Rajasthan’s heart by 7 wickets in the final

Indian Premier League has got a new champion after 6 years. Gujarat Titans, making its debut in IPL 2022, has become the newest champion of the world’s most famous league. The jugalbandi of the new team and the new captain Hardik Pandya brought an exciting end to IPL 2022. Gujarat won the IPL 2022 title by defeating Rajasthan Royals (GT Beats RR) by 7 wickets in the final played on Sunday 29 May in Ahmedabad. With this, Gujarat became the seventh team to win the IPL title. Not only this, Gujarat equaled its own record against Rajasthan. Gujarat became the first team after Rajasthan to win the title of the first season in 2008, which won the title in the debut season itself.

Rajasthan, who reached the finals for the first time since 2008, faced the challenge of defeating the Gujarat Titans, which they had already lost twice this season. It was not going to be that easy as Gujarat was consistently performing well. However, the manner in which Rajasthan defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the qualifiers, was expected to compete strongly, but it did not happen and Rajasthan’s dream of becoming champion for the second time was shattered.

Captain Hardik laid the foundation of victory

To win the title, good performance is required from every player and if the example is set by the captain, then nothing better than that. Gujarat captain Hardik did the same thing throughout the season and in the final also he was at the forefront of this matter. On the strength of his economical and effective bowling, Hardik played an important role in restricting Rajasthan to just 130 runs. Hardik conceded just 16 runs and got the big wickets of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer.

Rajasthan won the toss and decided to bat first and once again Jos Buttler played the biggest innings for the team, but it was not as big as the team needed. Butler was out after scoring just 39 runs and due to this the team missed out on a big score. The team could never make a big partnership and wickets kept falling continuously. Only 98 runs were scored till 16 overs and 6 wickets had fallen. In the end also there was no fast batting and only 130 runs could be scored in 20 overs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Good start for Rajasthan, but Chahal made a mistake

In response, Gujarat did not start well and opener Wriddhiman Saha was out in the second over itself, while Matthew Wade also went on till the fifth over while the score was just 23 runs. It seemed that Rajasthan would also create problems for Gujarat. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal dropped a good catch of Shubman Gill and eventually it was heavy on the team. After doing wonders in bowling, Captain Hardik took command in batting as well.

Hardik-Gill and Miller did all the work

Hardik and Gill added 63 runs for the third wicket and laid the foundation for the team’s victory. Hardik (34 runs, 30 balls) was preparing to take the team to victory, but Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed him. However, Gill kept on from the other side and kept bringing the target closer with a fine batting. Then David Miller (32 not out, 19 balls) batted as soon as he came and confirmed the victory. Eventually the very first ball of the 19th over was pulled by Shubman (45 not out, 43 balls) and sent for a six and made the team the champion.
