Commonwealth Games-2022 has started. On Thursday, with the colorful Opening Ceremony, the games to be held in Birmingham, England officially started. Now these games will be discussed for almost two weeks. Indian players will also show their strength in this. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu led the Indian contingent in the opening ceremony. Manpreet Singh, captain of India’s men’s hockey team was also seen with him. Earlier Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra was supposed to lead the Indian contingent but was ruled out of the Games due to injury.
A total of 215 players from India are participating in these games. These players will participate in 141 events in 19 sports. This time cricket has also got a place in these games. Cricket was included for the first time in the Commonwealth Games held in 1998 and after that now the team has got a place in this sport. This time though women’s cricket has got a place and matches of T20 format will be played in these games.
Sindhu only needs gold
PV Sindhu is one of the legendary badminton players of India but one of her dreams remained unfulfilled and that is to win a gold medal in the singles category in the Commonwealth Games. She has won gold medal in mixed team in these games that too in Gold Coast in last edition, but in singles she has not been able to wear gold medal. Sindhu had won a silver medal in the singles category in the last edition and before that in Glasgow in 2014 she was successful in winning the bronze medal.
