Chess Olympiad: Pakistan again played a political ploy, withdrew from the tournament on the pretext of ‘Kashmir’

Even before the start of the Chess Olympiad, politics started on it. Pakistan has withdrawn from the Chess Olympiad being hosted for the first time in India. After coming to India, this team withdrew its name and it will return only on Thursday. The Pakistan team’s campaign in the 44th Chess Olympiad ended before the start and the teams would leave for the night.

Pakistan team will return

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) had invited Pakistan to participate in the Chess Olympiad that began in Mamallapuram from 28 July to 10 August. Pakistan’s team also reached India to take part, but before the start of the match, they made a plan to return. He said that the torch relay of the Olympiad had passed through Jammu and Kashmir, due to which there is a dispute between India and Pakistan for years. For this reason he withdrew from the Olympiad. Bharat Singh Chauhan, director of the Olympiad and general secretary of the All India Chess Federation (AICF), told PTI, the players from Pakistan will leave India tonight after withdrawing from the tournament.

Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, Chief Minister MK Stalin and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur were also present on the occasion. At the same time, Thalaiva Rajinikanth of South Cinema was also present. The Olympiad was to be held in Russia but was stripped of its hosting after Russia’s military attack on Ukraine. India got its host on this occasion.

PM Modi selected the starting pieces for the teams

India’s women’s A team has been seeded top in the Chess Olympiad and the team will play black pieces in the opening round on Friday. The draw to choose the color of the preliminary round pawns for the top seeded teams was done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister announced the commencement of these games at a grand ceremony held here on Thursday. The top-seeded US men’s team will also begin their campaign with black pieces. The Prime Minister chose a black pawn for them too.

FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovic, who was present at the inauguration, thanked the Tamil Nadu government for its efforts to organize this mega event in a short time. In the tournament, three teams of India will enter in the open and women’s categories. The great chess player Viswanathan Anand is not playing but will be in the role of mentor to the players.
