Common brain diseases in India can be divided into two parts. First come those diseases, which include meningitis due to infection, viral diseases and tuberculosis in the brain etc. Other types of diseases include problems like brain stroke, brain tumors and aneurysms. Children can also suffer from diseases related to the brain, including brain tumors and birth defects. Talking about the cases of brain tumor, India comes first in the whole world. In fact, about one lakh cases of brain tumor are found in the country every year. Apart from this, the cases of stroke are also very high. Every minute three to four stroke cases are reported in India.
Cases of brain tumors and strokes rise sharply
Dr. Verma said, ‘In the recent past, the cases of brain tumors and brain stroke have increased at a much faster rate than the brain diseases caused by infection. The incidence of brain stroke is increasing due to lifestyle related diseases like uncontrolled blood pressure and diabetes. Apart from this, the population of elderly people is also increasing, in whom the risk of brain stroke is very high due to old age. Apart from this, the number of such patients of brain tumor is also increasing significantly, who require surgery.
He gave three main reasons behind the risk of neurological diseases, including smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and blood pressure. He said, ‘Smoking is the most important cause of risk. When we smoke, our blood vessels narrow. This has a very bad effect on the blood supply to the brain, which leads to stroke. Uncontrolled diabetes is also the main cause of brain stroke. India is considered the diabetes capital, because it has the highest number of diabetes cases in the world. High blood pressure can cause blood clots to form in the arteries leading to the brain. This can block the flow of blood, which increases the risk of stroke.
Keep BP and sugar under control
Dr. Kamal Verma said, ‘Desk jobs, lack of exercise and physical activities are changing the lifestyle of people. There is no concept of taking care of health in India. Unless people have any problem, they do not even go to the doctor for routine checkup. They also do not control their blood pressure and blood sugar. This increases the risk of brain stroke. The brain is the most important part of the body. Just as we try to keep our body healthy, we have to learn to keep our mind healthy. This can reduce the dangers that can lead to diseases related to the brain.
