The cases of monkeypox are increasing rapidly all over the world. Within two weeks, this virus has spread to 15 countries. According to the data of the European Union Disease Agency, more than 200 cases of this virus have been registered so far. This virus is spreading rapidly in countries like America, Britain, Australia, Sweden, Germany. Due to this, the possibility of its spread has increased in other countries as well. Although no case has been reported in India, but in view of the increasing danger, surveillance has been increased. Especially in the states where foreign tourists come. Special monitoring is being done there. Doctors say that there is no possibility of this virus spreading rapidly, but still there is a need to be cautious.
Experts say that there is a vaccine in India to protect against monkeypox virus. Chicken pox and small pox vaccine can prove to be effective on this virus. Monkeypox does not spread as fast as Corona. Whenever there have been cases of this virus before, it reduces after spreading in a small area. The dangerous form of this virus has never been seen.
Dr. Jugal Kishore, Professor, Department of Medicine, Safdarjung Hospital, says that there is no possibility of any new epidemic due to this virus in India. This is because this virus is very old. Mutations have also not been seen much in this. The countries where its cases have come before. There too there was not much danger from it and there were no deaths.
Can this virus also become an epidemic like corona?
Dr. says that monkeypox virus is very different from corona. This virus is not contagious like corona nor does it spread so fast. Corona was a new virus, whereas more than 60 years have passed since monkeypox. The first case of this disease came in 1958 in Africa. Since then this virus has spread many times, but it has never taken a serious form. In such a situation, there is no possibility that this virus will take a serious form like Corona.
This can be the rescue
Dr. explains that the best way to prevent this virus is that in the countries where cases of this virus have been reported. All the people coming from there should be checked at the airport. If someone has a mild fever, then he should be tested and the sample should be sent for genome sequencing.
