In these, problems of poor mental and physical health were seen. Participants answered questions based on their social environment and childhood experiences before the age of 18, including experiences of emotional, physical or sexual abuse, and substance abuse in the home. Researchers looked at this information by linking it with the current medical records of these people. Which showed that bad childhood experiences have an impact on mental and physical health.

The effects of childhood trauma

Nearly two-thirds (66 percent) of the participants reported at least one childhood trauma. At the same time, about one-fourth (24 percent) reported more than four bad experiences. Women and people of freaky American and Latinx ancestry reported worse experiences than men and people of European ancestry, but people in low-income households were most affected.

The effect is visible with increasing age

Karen Schlouch, researcher and one of the study’s lead authors, said the effects of poor personal experience with childhood neglect and abuse appear to increase with age. This research provides this information if a person has suffered any physical or mental trauma in childhood, then it affects his mental and physical health in the future.
