About 1.1 million people in India corneal blind and the current annual cornea transplant The number is only between 25 to 30 thousand. Every year in India, about 75,000 people suffering from corneal blindness lose their eyesight. The reason for this is the decrease in cornea donation. After the Kovid epidemic, the situation has become even worse. The number of eye donations has also come down drastically during the corona pandemic. During the peak of the pandemic from March 2020 to April 2021, only 18,358 cornea transplants were performed across the country.
Director, Rawat Eye & Phaco Surgery Center, Jaipur Dr. Harshul Tak Said that about 60 percent of people are affected by corneal blindness. Therefore, donating eyes is important as eye donation from one person can help at least 2 people. CEO of ENTOD PHARMACEUTICALS Nikhil K Masoorkar Said that there are many myths about eye donation which need to be broken. People have to be made aware about eye donation. There is no hesitation in donating your eyes after death.

But for this it is necessary that people should be aware about the importance of organ donation. People are urged to donate their eyes.
Long waiting for cornea transplant
Nikhil K Masurkar said that around 11 lakh blind people in India are waiting for cornea transplant. A campaign was launched to create awareness about eye donation. Its aim was to raise awareness around the importance of donating eyes. Through this, people were told that they should donate eyes and increase the desire of people to donate eyes. Though it was a nationwide campaign, it was specifically targeted at low eye donation cities and eye bank centers including Patna, Ranchi, Lucknow, Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur and Chandigarh Eye donation awareness camps to bring change at the grassroots level . People were also made aware through social media. More than 30 million people in the country were made aware through this campaign.
Pledge to donate eyes
Dr. Harshul Tak said that the major cause of blindness is damaged cornea. Eyesight can be brought back through cornea transplant. There is no problem in donating eyes. In this procedure, a healthy cornea transplant is put in place of the patient’s damaged cornea. Donating the eyes of a healthy person can give light to many people.
