6 month old girl had this fatal disease, doctors saved her life by doing liver transplant

Liver Transplant: Prisha, a child living in Bihar’s Jehanabad, had developed jaundice some time back. Prisha’s parents got her treated by doctors, but there was no relief. Meanwhile, after getting tested in a hospital, it was found that 6-month-old baby Prisha has biliary atresia, which is a fatal disease. Liver fails due to this disease. At the age of only six months, the girl’s parents were worried because of such a dangerous disease, but they did not give up. After consulting some doctors, they came to know that the girl’s life can be saved through liver transplant. At the age of 6 months, Prisha’s parents brought her to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi. Here the doctors decided to transplant the girl’s liver. According to the doctors, it was a challenging operation. For this a team of specialist doctors was formed. A feeding tube was inserted through her nose to give her the right diet. Her mother donated a part of her liver and Prisha was cured after a successful liver transplant. Prisha’s weight was only 4.6 kg at the time of transplant. After the transplant, the condition of the girl child is fine and she is recovering fast. Liver transplant for small children is very difficult. Dr. Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director and Senior Pediatric Gastroenterologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi said, “We are proud to have reached this important milestone and to be able to help so many children and families. We pride ourselves on being able to. Over the years many challenges have been overcome. There is also a risk of transplant in small children weighing less than 4 kg, but the doctors of the hospital have overcome this challenge. Dr. Anupam said that this was the 500th transplant of the hospital for 6-month-old baby Prisha. And about 45% of our patients are now girls.
